Youth Participation, Democracy & Changemaking in the Heart of Berlin
A transformative international learning experience about democracy, youth participation, active citizenship, European values, and social change.
From 23 May to 30 May 2026, I had the opportunity to participate in the Erasmus+ Seminar "Participate! – Empowering Youth in Europe" organized by Citizens of Europe e.V. in Berlin, Germany.
Together with participants from different European countries, we explored the importance of youth participation in democratic life and discussed how young people can become active changemakers in their communities.
Throughout the week, we exchanged experiences, explored innovative participation methods, met inspiring organizations, and developed ideas for creating positive social impact at local and European levels.

Day 1 – First Connections & European Identity
The seminar started with energizers, icebreakers, and team-building activities that helped participants get to know each other and build a positive learning environment.
We explored our expectations and reflected on what it means to be a young European citizen in today's rapidly changing world. Through interactive discussions and intercultural activities, we discovered the diversity of experiences, perspectives, and realities represented within the group.
Day 2 – Understanding Youth Participation in Europe
The second day focused on youth participation and the different opportunities available for young people to engage in civic and political life across Europe.
Participants explored challenges faced by young people across Europe, including barriers to participation, lack of representation, and limited access to decision-making processes. Through discussions and group activities, we reflected on how stronger youth engagement can contribute to more inclusive and democratic societies.
Day 3 – Democracy, Solidarity & European Values
This day focused on the foundations of democracy, solidarity, human rights, and the rule of law.
Participants exchanged views on current challenges facing Europe and discussed the importance of protecting democratic values while promoting active citizenship and social responsibility. The activities encouraged critical thinking and meaningful dialogue about the role young people can play in strengthening democratic societies.
Day 4 – Innovative Methods & Best Practices
Participants explored successful examples of youth participation from different countries, including youth councils, participatory budgeting, digital participation platforms, advocacy campaigns, and community-led initiatives that empower young people to become active contributors to society.
Through peer learning and practical exercises, we discovered innovative methods that can be adapted and implemented in our own communities.
Day 5 – Learning from Berlin's Changemakers
One of the highlights of the seminar was visiting local initiatives and organizations working to promote youth participation, democracy, and civic engagement in Berlin.
These field visits provided practical examples of how ideas can be transformed into meaningful projects with real social impact. Meeting professionals, activists, and community leaders allowed participants to gain valuable insights and inspiration for their future work.
Day 6 – Project Development & Changemaking
Participants worked in international teams to design project ideas addressing challenges faced by young people in Europe.
Using project management and problem-solving techniques, we developed creative solutions and explored ways to transform ideas into concrete actions. The collaborative atmosphere encouraged innovation, teamwork, and active participation throughout the process.
Final Day – Presentations, Youthpass & Goodbye ❤️
The final day was emotional and inspiring. Participants presented their project ideas and shared the lessons, memories, and friendships created during this incredible experience.
We concluded the journey with the Youthpass ceremony, celebrating growth, learning, teamwork, and intercultural exchange — and a stronger commitment to promoting youth participation and democratic engagement.
Final Reflection 🌟
This Erasmus+ experience reminded me that democracy is not only about institutions and elections it is also about participation, dialogue, and collective responsibility.
Beyond the workshops and activities, this seminar created meaningful friendships, inspiring conversations, and valuable connections with young changemakers from different countries. I leave Berlin motivated to continue supporting youth participation, promoting democratic values, and contributing to positive change within my community and beyond.
