Preventing Youth Radicalisation in the Digital Age
A powerful international learning experience about digital awareness, critical thinking, youth work, and intercultural dialogue.
From 4 May to 12 May 2026, I had the opportunity to participate in the Erasmus+ Training Course “Preventing Youth Radicalisation in the Digital Age: Tools for Youth Workers” organized by Association Alternativi International in Bansko, Bulgaria.
Together with participants from different countries, we explored one of the most important social challenges affecting young people today: radicalisation in the digital era.
Through workshops, discussions, teamwork, and intercultural exchange, we discovered how youth workers can contribute to prevention, inclusion, empathy, and critical thinking.
🎥 Watch the Experience
Day 1 – First Connections & Positive Energy
The first day officially launched our international journey in Bansko. We started with energizers and interactive games that helped participants break the ice and connect with one another.
The treasure hunt around Bansko transformed strangers into a united international group full of positive energy, teamwork, and laughter.
Day 2 – Understanding Radicalisation in the Digital Age
Participants explored online influence, extremist narratives, algorithms, echo chambers, and early warning signs such as intolerance and “us vs them” thinking.
Through discussions and teamwork, we reflected on how awareness, empathy, and critical thinking can help prevent radicalisation among young people.
Day 3 – Reflection, Empathy & Social Awareness
Through the activity “One Step Ahead,” participants reflected on inequalities, opportunities, and social realities experienced by different individuals.
The day also included a photo walk and meaningful discussions inspired by Louis Theroux’s documentary about online extremism and manipulation.
Day 4 – Real Stories & Difficult Conversations
Participants explored real-life case studies connected to radicalisation and reflected on the emotional and social consequences extremism can have on individuals and communities.
We also created a “Dictionary of Radicalisation” to better understand coded language, symbols, and online communication methods linked to extremist narratives.
Day 5 – Prevention, Teamwork & Final Outcomes 🌍
This day focused on prevention, empathy, inclusion, and understanding the factors that can increase vulnerability among young people.
Participants collaborated on their final project outcomes, combining creativity, teamwork, and the knowledge gained throughout the training course.
Final Day – Reflection, Celebration & Goodbye ❤️
The final day was emotional and inspiring. Participants presented their final outcomes and reflected on the lessons, memories, and friendships created during this incredible experience.
We concluded the journey with the Youthpass ceremony, celebrating growth, learning, teamwork, and intercultural exchange.
